Job Summary:
As a motivated Mental Health Screener in our ARRIVE Together Department, you will work within the Bergen County Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program "262-HELP". This Screener would be hired specifically to work within one or more Bergen County Police Departments as part of the statewide ARRIVE initiative. Upon successful completion of Screener training alongside the 262-HELP team, this Screener would be embedded within our law enforcement partner(s). If you are interested in gaining training and supervision in assisting individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, working within a multidisciplinary team, and working closely with law enforcement, consider this exciting job opportunity. 262-HELP is a 24/7 program operated out of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center with the purpose of providing on-site and off-site, emergency mental health services in Bergen County.


What You Will Do:

  • Conduct mental health evaluations and risk assessments for adults and youth to determine the appropriate clinical intervention under the NJ Screening Law
  • Answering 24-hour crisis hotline and telephonic triage-during training and whenever office based
  • Follow up with individuals at risk via telephone, in-person, or virtually
  • Develop working relationships with Bergen County Emergency First Responders
  • Supportive crisis intervention counseling, consultation, and referrals to community resources
  • Providing psycho-education and advocacy
  • Completing all legal and program documentation within agency/department guidelines
  • Successful completion of Screener Certification Basic Training


What We
Are Looking For:
To succeed in this position, the candidate must embrace learning in a fast-paced environment by integrating regular feedback during a comprehensive training period and ongoing supervision. In addition, the candidate must possess:

  • Master's Degree in a mental health related field plus 1- year full-time employment in a mental health setting post degree OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in a mental health related field plus 3- years full-time employment in a mental health setting post degree, 1 year of which must be in a crisis setting OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in a mental health related field and enrolled in a Master's program plus 2 years full-time employment in a mental health setting, 1 year of which must be in a crisis setting
  • Valid driver's license and insurable under Agency's automobile insurance policy
  • Possess excellent computer skills
