PESP Crisis Support Specialist

Looking for a Full-Time Crisis Support Specialist for our Psychiatric Emergency Screening Program located at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. The schedule is 9am-5pm Monday-Friday but may be flexible to meet program needs and include some weekends. This is a union position offering a competitive benefits package.


Job Summary:

You will follow up outreach and/or on-site support services, care coordination, and psychoeducation to individuals who present to the Designated Screening Center and/or emergency rooms in Bergen County with high rates of recidivism. You will act as a liaison between the identified individuals and their family/support systems, treatment providers and relevant community resources to reduce the need for screening center and emergency room services.


What You Will Do:

  • Follow up with individuals at risk via telephone, in-person, or virtually
  • Provide supportive counseling, referral and/or linkage for individuals and support systems
  • Monitoring and coordination of care for individuals at Bergen County hospitals
  • Advocacy, Education, WRAP Planning, Psychiatric Advanced Directives
  • Provide psycho-education as appropriate
  • Provide follow up at hospitals upon admission and/or discharge
  • Collaborate with treatment providers to coordinate care
  • Ensure compliance with outlined goals of grant


What We Need to See:

  • BA/BS degree in mental health and be interested in working with adults with mental illness, with 2 years' experience working in the field.
  • Strong motivation to learn and work toward meeting the needs of the Bergen County community.
  • Work well independently and within multidisciplinary teams, as well as collaboratively with law enforcement in the community, when appropriate.
  • Valid NJ Driver's license and eligible to be insured under CPNJ automobile insurance policy.
